In our current political, social, cultural climate a resounding call for diversity and inclusion can be heard.

In celebration of the International Women’s Week. The Innovation Hub and Women Accelerators are cohosting a panel discussion to learn more about topics from experts in STEM fields such as:

  • Diversity in engineering and academia
  • Diversity and Bias in scholarly publishing
  • Combating a lack of diversity in the workplace
  • Personal experiences of a lack of diversity in STEM
  • How to support women and the next generation of STEM professionals
  • How to facilitate and create environments conducive for inclusion

Panel Speakers:

Dr. Simone Taylor

Simone is Publisher, eBooks, at AIP Publishing, where she develops texts to meet the current needs of researchers, educators, and professionals in physics and the related sciences. From a background in scientific research, Simone started her publishing career out at Elsevier, and via the National Physical Laboratory and Wiley has developed considerable international experience.

Simone has a passion for helping authors maintain an archivable record of their work in the scientific literature, and is a keen advocate for improving global accessibility to published works. She holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Manchester, UK.

 

Dr. Jyoti Agarwal

Jyoti AgarwalJyoti is the managing director of Coqual, a nonprofit think tank whose mission is to help leaders design diverse and inclusive workplaces where every person belongs. For Jyoti, data and analytics are crucial DE&I tools because they remove bias from the equation. Her passions lie in using research, data, and analytics to create innovative business solutions, and in helping organizations best deploy and serve their talent population.

Before coming to Coqual, Jyoti was part of the Global Strategy Group at the National Basketball Association and has worked with Bain & Company, PUMA North America, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Spare-time activities include reading, doing indoor spinning, playing, and creating board games, swimming, and traveling.

Jyoti holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She side-hustles as an adjunct professor at Columbia, where she uses her sports and data expertise to teach sports business analytics course curriculum to students in the Master of Sports Management program.

Wan-Ting (Grace) Chen

wantingGrace is the Assistant Professor in Plastics Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her research interests are focused on Plastic recycling, Biomass conversion, Polymer thermodynamics, Material property analysis, Microplastic pollutant prevention, and Process design.

 

 

 

Moderator:

Evana Gizzi

Evana is a UMass Lowell Alumni (’13,’14), an Artificial Intelligence Ph.D Candidate at Tufts University, and a civil servant at NASA Goddard Space Flight center (GSFC), where she leads research in artificial intelligence methods for spacecraft resilience.
